Cost Analysis

Associated Costs

The costs below are listed per stair and are to be multiplied times the number of stairs to be ornamented, providing a total staircase cost. Although these costs are given per stair, for production, economies of scale will be used wherever possible. For example, Portland Cement is available in easy to manage sixty pound bags. A typical stair insert will use two-thirds of a bag of cement, so it will be most economical to cast most stair risers in groups of three. To ease materials handling and reduce storage space while curing, both molds and the storage racks to hold them will be made two foot deep to cast either two or three stair risers per shelf. To speed sandblasting, larger racks may be constructed to hold many stair risers at once.
