About Phil

Phil Garrow moved to Pittsburgh in the summer of 2009 with his partner Caitlin Freeman. In the time that they have lived in Pittsburgh they have purchased a home in South Oakland, become active in several community groups, and started a successful web development business, SEO Pittsburgh. On October 9th of 2013 Phil was honored by the Mayor for the community service work he has done since he has been here in Pittsburgh

Phil has a background in architecture and urban planning, and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. Phil also has an extensive art and sculpture background, having worked with George Kratina, a noted sculptor of heroic scale and religious monuments. Phil is an avid walker in the city of Pittsburgh, pursuing a goal of walking every street and staircase in the city, and is an avid photographer. Some of his work can be viewed on his web site:

Phil is also a writer, working on a multi-book series of historical fiction. Phil’s sees Pittsburgh’s current rebirth as part of a longer cycle in the ebbs and flows of civilization and is excited to be here at this time. He is interested to see how Pittsburgh makes the choices to preserve what has been created in the past while making progress towards the future, and he hopes to influence some of these decisions. Phil looks forward to broad support for his stairway awareness project as a way to rebuild and improve the alternative transportation network of this most livable City of Pittsburgh.
